Guide · Time clock kiosk

A time clock kiosk without the friction.

Three steps are enough: mount a tablet by the entrance, let the team clock in with a large-button PIN or QR code, then check the first test punch. Designed for gloved hands and noisy kitchens, adapted for Quebec.

Guide · Time clock kiosk

3 steps from mounting to the first punch.

  1. 01

    Mount the tablet

Put an iPad or Android tablet on the wall near the entrance. Keep it powered, connected to stable Wi-Fi and secured with an anti-theft mount. Kiosk mode limits access to the rest of the tablet.

    • Counter height (1.2 m) and a nearby outlet
    • Guided Access (iPad) or screen pinning (Android)
    • Placeholder photo of the recommended location
  2. 02

Clock in with PIN or QR

Two ways to clock in. A four-digit PIN uses large buttons readable from a metre away; a personal QR code avoids typing. The code is temporary (10 minutes) and single-use.

    • Large PIN buttons: high contrast and glove-friendly
    • Individual QR: fast scanning and protection against sharing
    • Placeholder photo of the PIN keypad and QR code
  3. 03

    Test the first punch

Have one employee clock in and check the original punch in the dashboard. If it looks right, the whole team can follow. If not, adjust the brightness or Wi-Fi before the first shift.

    • Original punch stamped with server time, not tablet time
    • Checklist: Wi-Fi, brightness and valid code
    • Built-in log for the last 24 hours

What it looks like on site

Three placeholder photos to replace with your own: a mounted tablet at the entrance, a close-up of the PIN, and an employee scanning a QR code.

Placeholder: wall-mounted tablet at the entrance
Placeholder: large-button PIN keypad
Placeholder: QR scan from 30 cm
On-site accessibility

A PIN you can see and tap.

72 px buttons, 12 px spacing and haptic feedback. The tablet never displays the full PIN; validation happens on the server. Useful when someone forgets their QR code or their phone is out of power.

  • Four digits: easy to remember, resettable by a manager
  • Automatic masking and a show/hide control
  • Lock after five attempts; a manager can unlock it
Contactless

A QR code that keeps the line moving.

Each employee has a personal QR code in the mobile app. The tablet reads it quickly, even through a screen protector. No biometric data, just a signed token.

  • Single-use token, valid for 10 minutes
  • Screen sharing blocked and screenshots detected
  • Works offline and syncs when Wi-Fi returns
Validation

A reassuring test punch.

Before service begins, have an employee clock in for a test. Check the original punch under Timesheets → 24-hour activity. The time comes from the Cadanza server, not the tablet.

Test punch checklist

  • ✓ Arrival recorded to the second
  • ✓ Break, meal and departure options depend on your plan
  • ✓ Corrections logged with reason, author and original value

Inspiration

Built for work in Quebec.

A fixed kiosk with PIN or QR simplifies clock-in for restaurants and hotels. Cadanza adds a job-site mode, Quebec break rules and local payroll exports.

Planday → Cadanza

The same fixed-tablet PIN/QR flow, with Quebec payroll exports and break management.
